About Our Products
Where is your furniture made?
It is our goal to support Canadian companies. All our wood furniture is handcrafted by Mennonite craftspeople right here in Canada. The majority of it is made locally, which allows us to visit the local craftspeople, see the love and care that goes into each handmade piece and ensure the utmost quality.
When it comes to our upholstered living room and bedroom furniture, we only carry the highest-quality Canadian brands, including the Canadian living room brands Brentwood Classics and Campio Furniture.
Do you do custom orders?
We do custom orders on all our furniture. For wood furniture, you can choose the dimensions and the type of wood and stain you would like. With living room furniture, you also have the opportunity to choose the type of fabric in the colours and designs you want. This allows you to truly customize your furniture to suit your home décor.
What types of wood do I have to choose from?
The most common wood used in our furniture is Wormy Maple. This softwood is popular due to the colour variations and mineral streaks that are cause by the larvae of the Ambrosia beetle. We also offer Maple, Brown Maple, Oak, Pine, Walnut and Cherry.
Why are there variations in the wood?
Wood is a natural substance and no two trees are alike. Variations in grain and surface checks, as well as the presence of knots, give each piece of wood a unique appearance. In addition, exposure of the wood to the environment can cause slight expansion or shrinkage. Add to this the fact that the handcrafting and hand-finishing of each piece of furniture can produce minor variations in the size and finish of the pieces, and you know that each piece is truly one-of-a-kind.
Can I see all your products on your website?
Our website showcases a limited selection of the products we have available. To see our full selection, we recommend you come into our store. We have a 10,000 square-foot showroom with all our products on display.
Can I order furniture in sets?
Rather than being sold in sets, all our furniture can be ordered as individual pieces. This allows you to mix and match to come up with a look that best suits your home.
Why can’t I see prices on your website?
Since so much of our furniture is made to order and there is a wide range of options when it comes to size, wood type and finish, the price for each piece will be as unique as the piece itself. It isn’t possible to give a piece a single retail price and listing a range of prices can cause confusion. For these reasons, we have chosen not to display prices on our website. We invite you to contact us or visit our showroom, so we can answer all your price-related questions.
About Orders, Payment and Delivery
How does payment for my furniture work?
When you place your order, you will be required to pay a deposit of 10% of the total cost. When your furniture is delivered, we recommend you carefully inspect your furniture to ensure there are no issues with it. If you are satisfied with the condition of the furniture, you will then be required to pay the remaining balance and the delivery fee.
When will my order be ready?
Typically, delivery of your furniture will be 6-8 weeks from the date the order is placed. If your order will take longer, you will be notified at the time you place the order. Keep in mind that order delays can occur for custom orders, which can increase delivery up to 14 weeks. If a delay occurs, you will be notified.
Who delivers my furniture?
We have our own professional, highly experienced delivery team at Oak Unlimited. This allows us to deliver furniture throughout Southern Ontario. When your order is ready, we will call you to schedule a delivery date and time. When the delivery team arrives, they will bring your furniture inside, ensure it is fully set up and take away any packaging, leaving you to enjoy the new look and feel of your home.
How do I prepare for the delivery of my furniture?
It is important to prepare your property, both inside and outside, prior to the arrival of our delivery team. They should have a clear path from the delivery truck into your home, free of snow and ice, vehicles, pets, toys and other potential obstacles. All potential obstacles inside your home should also be removed. This provides our delivery team with a safe work environment, to which they are entitled as outline in the Ontario Workplace Health and Safety legislation. If our delivery team feels conditions are hazardous for any reason, they have the right to refuse to deliver your order.
In addition, it is our policy that our delivery team not move a customer’s existing furniture or handle mattresses or box springs, in order to protect their health and safety. For this reason, it is your responsibility to ensure that all furniture is removed from a space prior to the delivery of your new furniture.
Does my furniture come with a warranty?
Finished furniture purchased at Oak Unlimited comes with a one-year warranty on workmanship and materials, valid from the date of purchase. This warranty does not apply to the misuse of furniture or wood furniture subject to humidity levels outside the range of 40%-60%, which can cause expansion or shrinkage. There is no warranty on unfinished furniture.
What do I do if my furniture needs repair?
If your furniture requires repair, please contact us directly to make arrangements for your specific situation.
What is the best way to care for my wood furniture?
There are a number of considerations when it comes to caring for wood furniture. Humidity should be kept at around 40%, regardless of the time of year, and can be maintained at this level with the use of air conditioning in the summer and humidifiers in the winter. In addition, furniture should never be placed in direct sunlight. This can cause wood to heat up and dry out and can cause fabric colours to fade.
When it comes to cleaning your wood furniture, no chemicals are required. There is no need for specialized wood or furniture polishes. All you need to properly clean your wood furniture is soap and water.
